Beyond Glenorchy we travel up the Dart Valley to the filming location for Isengard, set amongst snow-capped mountains beside the turquoise waters of the Dart River  This setting offers views of Mt Earnslaw and it’s hanging glacier, used in the first instalment of The Hobbit trilogy. Explore the Paradise Forest, the location for the Forest of Lothlorien. Leaving Glenorchy and returning towards Queenstown we stop at 12 Mile Delta to explore the location of the Ithilien Camp.

Safari of The Scenes – Wakatipu Basin

A true adventure safari packed with goldmining history, thrilling 4WD river crossings and a great overview of the diverse scenery of the Queenstown / Arrowtown area. Visit the filming locations of Minas Tirith, Misty Mountains, the Pillars of the Kings (Argonath), the site of Isildur’s Fall, the Ford of Bruinen and more!

The perfect tour for anyone that want the thrills of an off road adventure but also wants to discover Lord of The Rings filming locations.

The Wakatipu Basin tour takes you out of Queenstown towards The Remarkables mountain range which was used as various mountains throughout the trilogy, including the Misty Mountains. Travel part of the way up this road to a lookout point which provides a birds eye view over Deer Park Heights, used as the filming location for the refugees of Rohan and the Battle of the Wargs scenes.

Descending The Remarkables we head to the Kawarau Gorge, location of the world’s first commercial bungy operation and the filming location for the Pillars of the Kings. Leaving the Kawarau Gorge the trip heads to Arrowtown where the loss of The One Ring at Gladden Fields was filmed. From Arrowtown we travel along a historic gold mining road that follows the Arrow River, crossing the river at several points including the Ford of Bruinen filming site. Stop beside the river for a refreshing morning or afternoon tea and the opportunity to try your hand at gold panning.

On our way back to Queenstown we travel up Coronet Peak to Skippers Saddle, offering spectacular panoramic views over the Wakatipu Basin and in to Skippers Canyon.

Paradise Safaris

A must ­do for movie fans, this half day safari journeys to the head of Lake Wakatipu and in to the picturesque Paradise Valley.

This region is packed with movie locations, including The Chronicles of Narnia, The Water Horse and X-Men: Wolverine and most famously, the Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit. Your guide will deliver entertaining commentary about the region and anecdotes from the filming of the movies.

Beyond Glenorchy follow the Dart River to the spectacular filming location for Isengard. This location offers stunning views of Mt Earnslaw. Head to Paradise to discover the location for the Forest of Lothlorien.  Leaving Glenorchy and returning towards Queenstown you will stop at 12 Mile Delta to explore the location of the Ithilien Camp.
